Boiler and Steam Generation Systems for Steam Engineer Competency Certification (Grade 1 & Grade 2)

Course Objectives

  • To provide fundamental, operation and practical aspects of steam boilers and turbines, including acts and regulations
  • To upgrade knowledge and skill in handling, inspection, testing, maintaining, commissioning and troubleshooting of steam boilers, steam engines and their associated equipments
  • To prepare participants for the Steam Engineer Grade 1 and Grade 2 competency examination as conducted by the Jabatan Keselamatan dan Kesihatan Pekerjaan (JKKP/DOSH), Malaysia.

Target Audience

  • Engineers, construction, maintenance personnel who are and will be responsible for the selection, signing, specification, installation, testing, operation and maintenance of boilers and its associate equipments.
  • Personnel who are in the process of applying Steam Engineer Competency Certificate (Grade 1 and Grade 2).
  • Professional who are interested to review, enhance or broaden their understanding and skill in engineering practice for effectively managing and problem solving for steam plant.

Methodology

Seminar, dialogue, Q & A sessions. Consultation, practical inspection and demonstration sessions on equipment at client’s premises can be arranged for in-house programme only.

  • Types, classifications and construction of steam boilers
  • Water, steam and hot gases circulations
  • Acts and regulations related to all aspect of boilers, pressure vessels and environmental issues.
  • Pressure and Non-pressure parts
  • Essential fittings, mountings and its accessories (meter, gauge, fan)
  • Steam and mud drums, boiler tube, superheater, economizer, preaheater and all other related equipments
  • Boiler operation (commissioning, start-up, shutdown and steam supplying)
  • Safety valve and gauge glass testing, blow down procedures
  • Normal and emergency operational situations
  • Water treatment and steam quality
  • Boiler maintenance, overhaul and mandatory inspection
  • Boiler safety and housekeeping
  • Steam turbines (type, construction, operation and maintenance)
  • Fuel, burners and combustion systems
  • Welding technology and NDT
  • Boiler and turbines failure: precaution and accidents cases
  • Preparation for JKKP interview and examination
  • Boiler plant visit and discussion
  • Consultation on boiler maintenance program
  • Review on boiler operation and management

Prof. Yahaya Bin Ramli holds a Masters degree in Fluid Power Systems from the University of Bath, UK, an Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from ITM, Shah Alam, and a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, from UTM, Kuala Lumpur. He is also a Registered Subcontract Technical Assessor with Jabatan Standard Malaysia (DSM), a Certified and Qualified ISO / IEC 17025 Technical Assessor, and a Certified and Qualified Auditor / Lead Auditor, ISO9001:2000.
