What Chatting with AI Taught Us About Talking to Humans
How prompting AI made us better communicators—with real people, too.
We’ve spent a lot of time talking to AI.
We run workshops like “AI as Your Second Brain,” where we explore how to think, plan, and create with tools like ChatGPT.
But here’s something we didn’t expect:
The more we use AI, the more we understand how tricky—and important—it is to communicate clearly with actual humans.
We always say in our sessions:
“If you want better answers from AI, you need to ask better questions.”
Turns out, the same rule applies to everyday conversations.
It Started with a Missed Prompt
There was a moment early on when one of us typed in what felt like a simple, obvious request—something we assumed ChatGPT would “just get.”
Spoiler: it didn’t.
The answer came back way off. Confusing. Totally unusable.
That’s when it clicked for us: AI isn’t a mind reader. It needs direction. It needs clarity. It needs context.
We felt it even more when we reopened a new chat. Just an hour ago, we’d had this brilliant conversation about design thinking. But starting fresh? It was like we were strangers again.
Every new conversation is a blank slate.
With AI, and with people too.
That’s when we started thinking differently—not just about prompting, but about how we communicate as a whole.
4 Lessons About Communication We Didn’t Expect to Learn from AI
Here’s what using AI taught us about improving human conversations:
1. Clarity = Respect
Clarity isn’t about dumbing things down.
It’s about making your message easier to follow—which is a form of respect.
With ChatGPT, clarity gives you better output.
With people, clarity builds trust and connection.
2. Context Is Everything
AI doesn’t know what you know. Neither do people.
When we skip the backstory, we’re basically saying, “You figure it out.”
We learned that quickly during a Quorse training session—when we gave the why before the what, people leaned in. They followed.
That moment changed how we communicate—internally and externally.
3. Word Choice Really Does Matter
A slight change in phrasing can completely shift the outcome.
We’ve seen it happen in prompts—and we’ve noticed it in our everyday messages too.
The way you phrase a question, give feedback, or write an email can either create clarity—or confusion.
AI taught us to pause, rethink, and be more precise.
4. Tone Shapes Trust
With AI, you can instruct it: “Use a warm, supportive tone.”
With people? That tone is felt instantly—in your voice, your pace, even your body language.
We’ve started being more mindful of tone across our communication—especially when tensions are high or feedback is needed.
Because people don’t just remember what you said.
They remember how you made them feel.
A Simple Practice That’s Changed the Way We Communicate
Here’s something we now do at Quorse—and we encourage others to try it too:
Next time you draft an email, message, or feedback note…
Drop it into ChatGPT.
Then ask:
“Can you rewrite this to be more clear, respectful, and constructive?”
Read the result side-by-side with your original.
Not to copy it blindly—but to hold up a mirror.
You’ll start to see what feels too sharp, vague, or rushed—and you’ll bring that awareness into your real conversations.
AI Helped Us Speak More Like Ourselves
Here’s the twist:
We all came to AI looking for better answers. But what we found was something deeper.
AI gave us a training ground to become better communicators.
More thoughtful. More intentional. More human.
We believe that AI isn’t just a tool for efficiency—it’s a tool for growth.
And sometimes, the best upgrade it offers… is in how we connect with the people around us.
