Gauge R&R Study for Average & Range Method

Course Objectives

This course is mainly on the concepts, implementation, and performance in GR&R study on variables and attributes data. The X̅ & R method of variable data is used in this study due to the simplest and commonly used among other methods.

  • Understand the issues involved in repeatability and reproducibility (R&R) studies
  • Learn how to estimate the repeatability and reproducibility in a measurement process
  • Make a decision on the acceptance or suitability of a measurement system
  • Avoid any significant measurement error on product acceptance and on control charts and/or process capability studies that will provide validity for statistical control.
  • Provide criteria for accepting new measuring equipment.
  • Comparisons between different measuring devices can be made more effectively.
  • Evaluate deficient gauges as opposed to incapable/out-of-control processes (False alarm – Risk of unnecessary action taken on In-control process).
  • Improve equipment maintenance, selection, calibration, and use.
  • Improve observer’s training and skill (as necessary).
  • Handle the situation during measuring and auditing that related to the measurement system.

Target Audience

Laboratory, production line and quality control personnel, anyone who must determine the accuracy and precision of gages, instruments, and operators in a measurement process. It can serve as a refresher for experienced technicians; or it can be used in orientation for new hires.

Methodology

Training slides, Review Questions, Exercises, Analysis by using Microsoft Excel, Excel Worksheet for X̅ & R Method of Gauge R&R Study, Case Study, and Q&A and Test Before Training & After Training.
