INTRODUCTION

A member of the Business Ethics Institute of Malaysia (BEIM Membership No: 00207), Sanmuga Thavamoorthy is an MC, speaker, author and trainer who has served educational institutions, corporate entities, government agencies and non-governmental organizations in the past 20 years. He has had a varied career as a trainer, consultant and project facilitator with these entities in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and so on.

In communications, Sanmuga made his mark as a journalist with The Sun and The Star in Malaysia through regular, consistent bylines, and therefore, results. When he left full-time journalism, he started offering communication consultancy services. Among his clients in this area were magazine companies, SMEs, private higher educational institutions and so on. However he believes that the biggest impact in this are has been the work he did for MATRADE which resulted in increased visibility both for local companies regionally and Malaysia’s position as a trade hub globally – among the initiatives put in place was enhanced interactions with the media and bloggers, administrative intra and inter departmental communication improvements, etc.

His public sector work did not end there; he helped enumerate the Hindu Places of Worship in the country for the Prime Minister’s Department by working on a project with Malaysia Hindu Sangam, and succeeded in this project where others could not by sticking to the fundamentals of project management and key leadership and human resource principles.

As he continued his consulting services, he also worked with several experts on human resource consulting, and in the course of doing so he wrote an e-book – ‘Employee Handbook for SMEs’ – as a guide for employers in developing an employee handbook for ease in managing human resources.
