Gauge R&R Study Workshop by Using Excel

Course Objectives

This course mainly focused on the conducting of the gauge R&R study on variables and attributes data by using Excel. These studies based on simulated variables data using Excel, and appropriately select data for an attribute study, then analyze furtherly by using a variable study.

  • Understand the probabilities and statistics concepts that are used in Gauge R&R studies.

  • Understand the X̅ and R, and ANOVA methods are based on range and standard deviation approach respectively, and appropriate application for these methods.

  • Plan and conduct the gauge R&R studies for attributes and variables data.

  • Understand the measurement variations for a measurement system.

  • Learn how to estimate the variance components for a gauge R&R study.

  • Understand the attribute study is to ensure the effectiveness of the inspection system.

  • Decide on the acceptance or suitability of a measurement system.

  • Determine which measuring devices can be made more effectively.

  • Avoid any significant measurement error on product acceptance and on control charts and/or process capability studies that will provide validity for statistical control.

  • Apply and interpret the results are obtained from the gauge R&R studies by manually calculation or using Excel program worksheets (Formulas and functions).

  • Use Excel programs worksheets for the gauge R&R studies (easy to validate and understand flow and calculation for the formulas and functions used in the studies).

  • Evaluate deficient gages as opposed to incapable/out-of-control processes (False alarm – Risk of unnecessary action taken on In-control process).

  • Improve equipment maintenance, selection, calibration, and use.

  • Improve the observer’s training and skill (as necessary).

  • Handle the situation during measuring and auditing that related to the measurement system.

Target Audience

The person works related to the measurement system that included the gauges, instruments, and operators in a measurement process. It can serve as a refresher for experienced technicians; or it can be used in orientation for new hires. The persons who have experience and knowledge in GR&R study are encouraged to attend.

Methodology

Training slides, Programed Excel Worksheets (Based on the formulas and functions) for the Gauge R&R Studies, Review Questions, Exercises, Case Studies, Data Simulation, Q&A and Test Before Training & After Training (This training requires Microsoft Excel Software).
