Course Objectives

After this session, participants will be able to:

  • Speak and understand the Thai language to the extent of being able to get around from the moment they land in a Thai airport, right to the moment they reach their office or accommodation
  • Use basic greetings in culturally appropriate ways in the most common formal and informal settings while in Thailand
  • Strike casual and yet meaningful conversations in Thai with their Thai counterparts and other everyday Thai people they encounter
  • Build rapport with key stakeholders in Thailand
  • Know what to say and what to do in the face of emergencies while in the country

Day 1 – Part 1

Lesson 3         Building Rapport with Your Thai Colleagues

  • Introducing yourself
  • Talking about general topics
  • Talking about work and business
  • Useful vocabulary to create connection at work

 

Lesson 4         Having a Meeting

  • Arranging a meeting
  • Starting and ending a meeting
  • Having a discussion
  • Expressing agreement and disagreement
  • Negotiating

 

Day 1 – Part 2

Lesson 1         Talking About Time and Date

  • Describing time
  • Using prepositions related to time
  • Describing situations and sequence of events

 

Lesson 2         Talking about feelings and emotions

  • Describing your feelings
  • Expressing ideas and opinions
  • Asking others for their ideas and opinions

 

Lesson 3         Typical restaurant and hotel conversation

  • Ordering food, making requests
  • Vocabulary: food, fruits, taste, flavors, reception, rooms, amenities etc
  • Basic formal and informal vocabulary in different dining settings

 

Lesson 4         Discussing Results and Performance

 

  • Setting goals and expectations
  • High-performance qualities
  • Giving performance feedback
  • Describing characters and behaviors

 

Day 2 – Part 1

Lesson 1         Typical travel and sightseeing conversation

  • Famous landmarks in and around Bangkok
  • Discussing modes of travel and transportation
  • Useful vocabulary to describe experiences

 

Lesson 2         Describing and Comparing Objects, Places, Situations and People

(Part 1)

  • Useful adjectives
  • Using superlatives in Thai

 

Day 2 – Part 2

Lesson 1         Dealing with problems and emergencies

  • Typical conversation about your embassy
  • Typical conversation about hospitals and law enforcers
  • Reporting stolen possessions and documents
  • Expressing urgency and asking for urgent help

 

 

Lesson 2 : Surprise Your Thai Colleagues and Friends

  • Useful colloquial expressions that most foreigners do not know
  • Common words in Thai and Malay
  • Common words in Thai and northern Malaysia Hokkien dialect
  • Thai words that originate from English
