INTRODUCTION

Paul graduated with a Bachelor of Marketing and E-Commerce from University of Curtin, Australia. He also attained a Diploma in Hotel Catering and Management from the American Hotel and Motel Association. He is a Certified Trainer under the Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Berhad (Ministry of Human Resource, Malaysia).

He brings along 18 years of experience from a variety of industries, ranging from quick-serve restaurants, hotels, airline industry and also pharmaceutical sales management. Training of new recruits in frontline service culture, managing difficult situations and supervisory and leadership competencies became a daily affair to Paul. Amongst the many skills acquired, one of the skills that still stick to him to this day was McDonald’s way of training, which was not only meticulously structured but also left an impact on him on the importance of properly guided training. In 1996, Paul relocated to Hong Kong where he was attached to Cathay Pacific Airways for a total of 8 years. Beginning as a professional crew member, he was selected as an On-Job-Trainer for new Recruits and it was here where he began his Training Career.

Next, Paul took up a new challenge as the Sales-cum-Operation Manager in a multi-national FMCG company dealing in vitamins and herbs. He trained staff on sales management competencies, customer service and leadership skills. Paul was trusted with heading offices in Hong Kong and Taiwan, he also opened up new offices in the Philippines. Paul regularly travelled the region conducting training for sales staff, pharmacists, promoters and occasionally doctors. Some of his well-received training programs were Managing Business Strategy, Business Goal Setting, Business Performance Assessment, and Effective Business Operations to name a few.

Paul’s passion for the aviation industry motivated him to return to it as an instructor for AirAsia Berhad’s Academy where he conducted training for AirAsia’s group of companies, be it AirAsia Thailand, AirAsia Indonesia, AirAsia Vietnam, AirAsia Philippines or wherever AirAsia opened up an affiliate company. As the Head of the Soft Skills Department, he managed the entire Soft Skill department leading a team of trainers to initiate, create and deliver soft skill training programmes such as Managerial and Supervisory Competencies, Assertive Communication Skills, Managing Strategic Teams and Effective Time and Stress Management.

Paul made a strategic career move when he accepted the offer to Head the Human Resources Department of the newly formed Asian Aviation Centre of Excellence which was a Joint Venture Company between AirAsia and their long standing Canadian business partner CAE Limited. Here he setup the entire HR department from scratch supporting two of the business entities in Singapore and Malaysia and their 4 offices in these two countries. As the head of the Human Resources, this let him able to further expand his knowledge base into performance management, business strategy, conflict resolution, key performance indexes, talent and succession planning. Along the way, he successfully merged HR functions with Customer Service Excellence and shaped the hybrid HR training culture, putting the team first and constantly maintaining the real “Human Relations”. Having involved in quite a few different industries, Paul has since then ventured out as a versatile and multifaceted freelance trainer, with a strong focus on Leadership, Personal Development and HR Strategy and Consulting. During the course of his career, Paul continues to develop himself to offer the best possible training and methodologies for his participants.
